What is Lidocaine HCl?
First,Lidocaine HCl is a versatile local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic drug. It is used for various types of anesthesia including infiltration, epidural, and surface anesthesia (particularly in thoracoscopy or abdominal surgery for mucosal anesthesia) as well as nerve conduction blocks.
Second,Lidocaine HCl belongs to the amide local anesthetic class.
As the dosage increases, both its efficacy and potential toxicity rise. Sub-toxic plasma concentrations exhibit an anticonvulsive effect.
Blood concentrations exceeding 5μg/ml can induce convulsions.
Third,At low doses, Lidocaine HCl promotes the outflow of K+ in cardiomyocytes, reduces myocardial automaticity, and exerts antiarrhythmic effects.
Usage of Lidocaine HCl:
1. TopicalLidocainehas been shown to alleviate the pain of postherpetic neuralgia (a complication of shingles) in some patients, although it is not yet recommended as a first-line treatment due to insufficient study evidence.
2.Lidocainecan be used as a temporary measure to reduce the effects of tinnitus by approximately two-thirds, though it does not completely cure the condition.
3.Lidocaine Hydrochlorideinjection, administered intravenously or intramuscularly, is specifically indicated for the acute management of ventricular arrhythmias, such as those related to acute myocardial infarction or during cardiac procedures like surgery.
