What is Lidocaine HCl?
First,Lidocaine HCl is a versatile local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic drug. It is extensively used for infiltration anesthesia, epidural anesthesia, surface anesthesia (including mucosal anesthesia during thoracoscopic or abdominal surgery), and nerve conduction block.
Second,Lidocaine HCl is classified as an amide local anesthetic.
As the dosage increases, its effects or toxicity also rise, featuring an anti-convulsive effect at sub-toxic plasma concentrations.
When the blood concentration exceeds 5μg/ml, convulsions may occur.
Third,At lower doses, Lidocaine HCl promotes the outflow of K+ in cardiomyocytes, reducing myocardial autonomy and exhibiting antiarrhythmic properties.
Usage of Lidocaine HCl:
1. TopicalLidocainehas been demonstrated to alleviate the pain of postherpetic neuralgia (a complication of shingles) in some patients, though current research is insufficient to recommend it as a primary treatment.
2.Lidocaineis also used as a temporary remedy for tinnitus. Although it does not completely cure the disorder, it has been shown to reduce its symptoms by approximately two-thirds.
3.Lidocaine hydrochlorideinjection, administered intravenously or intramuscularly, is specifically indicated for the acute management of ventricular arrhythmias, such as those occurring due to acute myocardial infarction or during cardiac manipulation, including cardiac surgery.
