What is Lidocaine HCl?
First,Lidocaine HCl is a versatile local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic drug. It is employed for infiltration anesthesia, epidural anesthesia, surface anesthesia (including mucosal anesthesia in thoracoscopy or abdominal surgery), and nerve conduction block.
Second,Lidocaine HCl belongs to the amide class of local anesthetics.
As the dosage increases, both its efficacy and toxicity rise. At sub-toxic plasma concentrations, it exhibits an anti-convulsive effect.
Blood concentrations exceeding 5μg/ml can induce convulsions.
Third,At low doses, Lidocaine HCl can enhance the outflow of K+ in cardiomyocytes, reduce myocardial autonomy, and possess antiarrhythmic properties.
Usage of Lidocaine HCl:
1. Topical ApplicationLidocainehas been noted to alleviate the pain of postherpetic neuralgia (a shingles complication) in some patients, though there is insufficient study evidence to recommend it as a first-line treatment.
2.Lidocainecan also be used as a temporary remedy for tinnitus. While not a complete cure, it has been shown to reduce symptoms by approximately two-thirds.
3.Lidocaine Hydrochlorideinjection, administered intravenously or intramuscularly, is specifically indicated for acute management of ventricular arrhythmias, especially those related to acute myocardial infarction or during cardiac procedures such as surgery.
