What is Lidocaine HCl?
Firstly,Lidocaine HCl is a potent local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic agent. It is widely used for infiltration anesthesia, epidural anesthesia, surface anesthesia (including mucosal anesthesia during thoracoscopy or abdominal surgery), and nerve conduction block.
Secondly,Lidocaine HCl belongs to the amide type of local anesthetics.
With an increase in dosage, both its efficacy and potential toxicity rise. It exhibits anticonvulsant properties at sub-toxic plasma concentrations.
Blood concentrations exceeding 5μg/ml may induce convulsions.
Thirdly,At low doses, Lidocaine HCl facilitates the outflow of K+ in cardiomyocytes, reduces myocardial automaticity, and provides antiarrhythmic effects.
Uses of Lidocaine HCl:
1. Topical ApplicationsLidocainehas been found effective in alleviating the pain of postherpetic neuralgia (a complication from shingles), although there isn't sufficient evidence to establish it as a first-line treatment.
2.Lidocainehas also been applied as a temporary solution for tinnitus. While it doesn't cure the disorder, it significantly reduces its effects by approximately two-thirds.
3.Lidocaine hydrochloride,when administered intravenously or intramuscularly, is specifically indicated for acute management of ventricular arrhythmias, such as those occurring in acute myocardial infarction or during cardiac procedures like surgery.
