What's Lidocaine HCl?
First,Lidocaine HCl is a local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic drug. It is used for infiltration anesthesia, epidural anesthesia, surface anesthesia (including mucosal anesthesia during thoracoscopy or abdominal surgery), and nerve conduction block.
Second,Lidocaine HCl is an amide local anesthetic.
As the dose increases, both its effects and toxicity increase. At sub-toxic plasma concentrations, it has an anticonvulsive effect.
Blood concentrations greater than 5μg/ml can lead to convulsions.
Third,At low doses, Lidocaine HCl promotes K+ outflow in cardiomyocytes, reducing myocardial autonomy and exhibiting antiarrhythmic effects.
Usage of Lidocaine HCl:
1. TopicalLidocainehas been shown to relieve the pain of postherpetic neuralgia (a complication of shingles) in some patients, though there is insufficient evidence to recommend it as a first-line treatment.
2.Lidocaineis also used as a temporary relief for tinnitus. Although it does not cure the disorder, it has been shown to reduce the effects by approximately two thirds.
3.Lidocaine Hydrochlorideinjections, administered intravenously or intramuscularly, are specifically indicated for the acute management of ventricular arrhythmias, such as those occurring during acute myocardial infarction or cardiac surgery.
