What is Lidocaine HCl?
First,Lidocaine HCl is a highly effective local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic drug. It is widely used for various types of anesthesia, including infiltration, epidural, surface anesthesia (particularly for mucosal anesthesia during thoracoscopy or abdominal surgery), and nerve conduction block.
Second,Lidocaine HCl belongs to the amide class of local anesthetics.
As the dosage increases, its effects and potential toxicity also rise. However, at sub-toxic plasma concentrations, it exhibits an anti-convulsive effect.
Convulsions may occur if the blood concentration exceeds 5μg/ml.
Third,At low doses, Lidocaine HCl promotes the outflow of K+ in cardiomyocytes, reducing myocardial automaticity and exhibiting potent antiarrhythmic properties.
Usage of Lidocaine HCl:
1. TopicalLidocainehas shown effectiveness in some patients for relieving the pain of postherpetic neuralgia, which is a complication of shingles. However, more studies are needed to recommend it as a first-line treatment.
2.Lidocaineis also used as a temporary remedy for tinnitus. While it does not cure the condition, it has been shown to reduce symptoms by approximately two-thirds.
3.Lidocaine Hydrochlorideinjection, administered either intravenously or intramuscularly, is specifically indicated for the acute management of ventricular arrhythmias, such as those associated with acute myocardial infarction or during cardiac procedures like surgery.
