What is Lidocaine HCL?
First,Lidocaine HCL is a powerful local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic drug. It is extensively utilized for infiltration anesthesia, epidural anesthesia, surface anesthesia (including mucosal anesthesia during thoracoscopy or abdominal surgery), and nerve conduction block.
Second,Lidocaine HCL is classified as an amide local anesthetic.
As the dosage increases, both its efficacy and potential toxicity rise. At sub-toxic plasma concentrations, Lidocaine HCL exhibits an anti-convulsive effect;
However, blood concentrations exceeding 5μg/ml can lead to seizures.
Third,At low doses, Lidocaine HCL can enhance the outflow of K+ in cardiomyocytes, reduce myocardial automaticity, and exert significant antiarrhythmic effects.
Usage of Lidocaine HCL:
1. TopicalLidocainehas demonstrated efficacy in alleviating the pain associated with postherpetic neuralgia (a complication of shingles) in some patients, though current studies do not recommend it as a first-line treatment.
2.Lidocaineis also employed as a temporary remedy for tinnitus. Though it does not completely cure the disorder, it has been shown to mitigate its effects by approximately two-thirds.
3.Lidocaine hydrochlorideadministered via intravenous or intramuscular injection, is specifically indicated for the acute management of ventricular arrhythmias, such as those occurring during acute myocardial infarction or cardiac surgery.
